The Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, is one of the most important traditional festivals in China. It marks the beginning of a new year according to the lunar calendar and is celebrated with great enthusiasm across the country. As the holiday approaches, families gather together, houses are cleaned from top to bottom, and red decorations are hung everywhere. The color red symbolizes good fortune and joy, which is why it plays such an essential role during this time.

One of the highlights of the festival is the reunion dinner held on New Year's Eve. Families come together to enjoy a lavish meal filled with symbolic dishes. Dumplings, for instance, resemble ancient Chinese gold ingots and represent wealth, while fish is served because its pronunciation in Chinese sounds like “surplus,” signifying abundance. Another cherished tradition is giving red envelopes (or hongbao) filled with money to children, believed to bring them luck and happiness throughout the year.

During the 15-day celebration, people participate in various activities like dragon dances, temple fairs, and fireworks displays. Streets are alive with laughter, music, and the aroma of delicious food. Lanterns are lit at night, creating a magical atmosphere that reflects hope and renewal.
